Events programme for the Expo 2010

We are a nation that has a vast and strong cultural heritage. The performances at the Pavilion will form part of a varied events programme that will run throughout Expo 2010.

Clanadonia are a great example of Scot’s humour and music all rolled into one. If you ever get chance to see them, the sound of the drums and pipes is powerful stuff. They regularly turn up for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and are often found on our city streets, like in this video, shot in Glasgow. This time they are playing the theme from Last of the Mohicans.

The people of Shanghai and China have drums as part of their culture since the Shang Dynasty. Red drums, the colour of power and luck feature in their religion, warfare, weddings and entertainment.  They were a prominant feature of the opening ceremony of the Beijing 2008 Olympics.

And if anyone needed more pipes, then the brilliant Red Hot Chilli Pipers would go down a storm.

Although bagpipes are not now regularly played in China, they are as synonymous with Scotland as golf, whisky and tartan.
